Centre Committed to Fast-Tracking Peace in Manipur: Arjun Ram Meghwal

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal has expressed hope for a speedy resolution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, stressing the importance of restoring peace for the state’s progress.

Speaking at a function in Imphal marking the 12th anniversary of the Manipur High Court, Meghwal stated, “Not only myself, everyone is hopeful that peace and normalcy will be restored soon in Manipur. I pray for the rapid progress of the ongoing peace process in Manipur so that the state can move forward and contribute to Viksit Bharat.”

Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to Manipur’s stability, Meghwal shared that discussions on the state’s situation had taken place in Parliament.

“Five Supreme Court judges attended the NALSA programme and the 12th Foundation Day celebration of the Manipur High Court. I was present too. We spoke about the measures being taken to fast-track peace restoration in Manipur. The issue was discussed in Parliament as well, and the Home Minister has stated that the proposal for Manipur, following President’s Rule, will be debated in detail in Parliament,” he added.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also addressed the gathering, stressing the judiciary’s role in restoring peace and ensuring justice. “The central government, through its judiciary and the Ministry of Law and Justice, has extended strong support for peace, progress, and prosperity in Manipur. This sends a clear message that we are all united and committed to upholding law and justice in the state,” Bhalla said.

Reflecting on Manipur’s long legal history, Bhalla commended the efforts of the Manipur High Court in delivering justice. “The High Court of Manipur has been making commendable efforts to ensure justice for the people. I thank all five Supreme Court judges for attending this significant event and visiting Manipur,” he added.

Supreme Court judges, and Manipur High Court Chief Justice were also addressed in the High Court event.
