Massive Water Pipe Burst in Guwahati’s Pandu Area Damages Several Shops, 2nd Incident in 2 Months

Today’s pipeline burst marks the fourth such occurrence in the last 3 years, raising serious questions about the city’s water infrastructure and maintenance.
A major water pipeline burst in Guwahati’s Pandu area today, causing damage to several shops and triggering panic among locals near Pandu Cabin, close to the National Highway.
Water gushed out with immense force, flooding nearby areas and impacting businesses.
Authorities rushed to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control after several hours of effort.
However, shop owners and residents expressed concern over the recurring nature of such incidents, fearing further damage in the future.
This is not the first time Guwahati has witnessed such an incident. Today’s pipeline burst marks the 2nd such occurrence this year, raising serious questions about the city’s water infrastructure and maintenance.
January 2, 2025: A major pipeline burst in the Kharghuli area caused extensive damage to several houses, business establishments, and vehicles. Water ejected with massive force, rising over 20 feet, triggering panic among residents.
July 2023 : A water pipeline burst in the Zoo Tinali area, damaging houses and businesses. Residents suffered heavy losses as the flooding impacted homes and commercial spaces.
May 2023: A pipeline burst in Kharguli’s Joypur locality caused extensive flooding, spreading water 500 meters from the burst site and killing one person.
The incident was blamed on faulty construction work by Gammon India and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which had been responsible for the city’s water supply infrastructure.
