Manipur Chief Secretary Makes Renewed Appeal For Arms Surrender

Chief Secretary Singh also warned that keeping weapons in people's hands, whether in public or private, is a serious security risk.
Sending out a clear warning to individuals in possession of illegal weapons, Manipur Chief Secretary, Prashant Kumar Singh today stated that once the 7-day deadline is over, authorities will launch operations to seize all arms and ammunition that still at large.
Speaking to media, Singh said, “The seven-day period is good enough. If one decides to give up arms, it can be done in a day. After that period, we will go and take such weapons from them.”
Chief Secretary Singh also warned that keeping weapons in people’s hands, whether in public or private, is a serious security risk.
The Manipur chief secretary also assured that the Government is working hard to restore complete normalcy and peace in the state. Significantly, he informed that more forces will be deployed in the state soon.
It may be mentioned that Governor Ajay Bhalla has given a 7-day deadline to communities in both the valley and the hills to deposit looted and illegal arms.
Governor Bhalla reassured that no action will be taken against anyone who deposits arms within the 7-day time. However, stern steps will be taken at the end of the deadline to recover looted weapons.
Meanwhile, people from all communities started surrendering arms in Manipur post the Governor’s appeal.
