Coldplay had a stronghold in the northeast, with Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Meghalaya displaying a greater interest in the band.
Over the last three months, two major events have dominated headlines and social media in India—the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and British band Coldplay’s concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Both events drew massive crowds, with devotees flocking to the sacred festival and music fans thronging Coldplay’s performances.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the X account India in Pixels analysed Google search trends to determine which states were more interested in “Coldplay” and which searched more for “Maha Kumbh.” A colour-coded map ranked states on a scale from -100 (Coldplay) to 100 (Maha Kumbh) based on Google Trends data since November.
Bihar topped the list for Maha Kumbh-related searches, while Mizoram showed the highest interest in Coldplay. Other northern states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, also searched more about the Maha Kumbh.
Meanwhile, Coldplay had a stronghold in the northeast, with Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Meghalaya displaying a greater interest in the band. Southern states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry also leaned towards Coldplay. Interestingly, Goa remained neutral, with equal searches for both events, reports HT.
Despite hosting Coldplay’s concerts, Gujarat and Maharashtra saw higher search interest in the Maha Kumbh. This trend sparked discussions online, with users debating the timing of the data collection. One user pointed out that Coldplay was more talked about in November and December, while Maha Kumbh gained prominence in January, suggesting a broader timeframe for analysis.
The viral post garnered over 600,000 views, with netizens speculating on regional preferences and cultural influences behind the search trends. Regardless of the variations, the data highlights India’s diverse interests, where spirituality and music continue to captivate millions alike.
