Aizawl Police Arrests 12 For Flouting Firecracker Ban on Jan 1

The arrests and the registration of cases were for illegal use and bursting of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic materials.
It definitely was not a happy start to the new year for 12 people who were arrested by the Aizawl Police on January 1 for flouting the ban on bursting crackers during New Year celebrations.
A total of 7 cases were registered at the Aizawl Police station, leading to 4 arrests. The Bawngkawn Police Station (PS) registered 4 cases and arrested 8 people. Vaivakawn PS registered 1 case, but no arrests were made, while Kulikawn PS had no cases. In total, 12 individuals were arrested.
In addition to the registered cases, the police are analyzing drone footage to identify further violators of the firecracker prohibitory order and pursue legal action.
In a progressive step towards reducing air pollution, earlier, the state government in collaboration with the police department and civil society organisations, had imposed a strict ban on firecrackers, sky lanterns, and other pyrotechnic materials to ensure a pollution-free celebration of Christmas and New Year.
Community leaders and various civil society organizations earlier appealed to all concerned not to use or burst fireworks to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
