Tension erupted once again at Uyok Hills today, as women from various villages in Kangpokpi Hills attempted to push back the joint security forces, including BSF and CRPF, since early morning today.
The incident happened after the security forces flushed out armed men and occupied the bunkers on 29th December during their fourth combing operation. Led by the Indian Army, CRPF, and BSF, the troops captured the bunkers used by armed miscreants to attack the villages of Sana Sabi, Thamnapokpi, and Yaingangpokpi.
The security forces have been stationed in Uyok Hills, planning further operations to dominate the area, prevent violence, and ensure the safety of both the hill and valley communities.
However, after the bunkers were secured, villagers from Saibol and other areas of Kangpokpi District began climbing the hills to disrupt the security forces’ operations. Women from various villages, transported by vehicles, blocked access to the bunkers, hindering the forces from performing their duties. Even yesterday, a group of women entered a security forces’ post, threw out their belongings, and shouted for them to leave the hill.
As the number of women protesting the security operations grew, their interference intensified, forcing the security forces to deploy tear gas shells and smoke bombs to disperse the crowd.
As of now, tension remains high, and confrontations are going on between the villagers of Saibol and security forces, who are demanding the bunkers of the armed miscreants remain untouched by the security forces.
