9 from NE in 23-member Women’s India Football Squad, To Play Friendlies Against Maldives

Nine women football players from northeast are among the 23-member squad for two FIFA international friendlies against the Maldives.
Of the nine players, Sikkim’s Simran Gurung will play as a forward. The other eight players are from Manipur who are spread across positions.
In goalkeeping, Manipur is represented by Hempriya Seram and Maibam Linthoingambi Devi. Defenders from the state include Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu and Toijam Thoibisana Chanu. Grace Dangmei and Nongmeikapam Sibani Devi will strengthen the midfield, while Lhingdeikim and Lynda Kom Serto join Simran Gurung in the forward lineup.

Midfielders: Grace Dangmei, Kajol Dsouza, Neha, Nongmeikapam Sibani Devi, Nitu Linda, Rimpa Haldar
Forwards: Lhingdeikim, Lynda Kom Serto, Pooja, Pyari Xaxa, Simran Gurung
The matches are scheduled to take place at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru on Monday and Thursday, with kick-offs at 3:30 PM IST. Fans can watch the action live via streaming platforms.
India, ranked 69th in the FIFA women’s rankings, is a strong contender against the Maldives, who are ranked 163rd.
The teams last faced off in the SAFF Championship 2021, where India secured a comfortable 3-1 victory.
