The operation, conducted under the ‘Operation Praghat,’ involved a Raid and Search operation at Namapara the Kokrajhar Police Station.

Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) foiled a major terror plan by fundamentalist elements of a Global Terrorist Organisation (GTO) linked to Bangladesh. Arms, ammunition, and explosives were seized during a late-night raid in Kokrajhar, preventing a potentially devastating attack in Northeast India.

The operation, conducted under the ‘Operation Praghat,’ involved a Raid and Search operation at Namapara under the Kokrajhar Police Station area on December 24 night.

Addressing the media about the operation, Special DGP Harmeet Singh said, “This is a big conspiracy against the country. A major terror attack was averted. The handlers in Bangladesh are desperate to unleash terror in India, and we have to remain on maximum alert.”

The raid led to the arrest of two individuals and identified as Abdul Zaher Sheikh of Joypur Namapara, Kokrajhar and Sabbir Mirdha, who was residing at Kachipara Bazar, Kokrajhar.

During interrogation, crucial information led the STF to a hideout where a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and other war-like materials was seized. Items recovered included:

• Four (04) numbers of handmade rifles, that are made to look like AKs.
• Thirty Four (34) rounds of live ammunition.
• Twenty Four (24) rounds of blank cartridges.
• One pair of live un-primed IED with cortex
• One (01) hand made grenade with explosives.
• One Circuit of detonators made out of agricultural equipment.
• Fourteen (14) numbers of electronic switches.
• Three iron cases used for making of IEDs with twenty (20) iron pieces and plates for causing maximum damage/destruction.
• Huge numbers of switches and wires with explosives used in fire crackers along with other incriminating items.

Special DGP Harmeet Singh added, “War-like stores have been found. The materials clearly indicate plans for a large-scale terror act. This is not the end; more remains to be unearthed.”

This breakthrough follows the arrest of eight cadres from the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in previous operations. According to officials, the arrested individuals were part of a wider network receiving instructions from handlers based in Bangladesh. Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, Chief of STF Assam, directly supervised the operation.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be shared as the case develops.
