Kalyan Barooah Awards 2024: Eminent Journalist Kishore Seram Honoured With Lifetime Achievement Award

Freelancer Mubina Akhtar received the award in the Print Media category for her outstanding work in journalism.

The second edition of the prestigious Kalyan Barooah Awards 2024 were presented to the awardees from across the Northeast today.

The award ceremony was held at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.

Eminent journalist Kishore Seram was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional contribution to journalism over the decades.

The event also recognized excellence in 4 other media categories:

1.Freelancer Mubina Akhtar received the award in the Print Media category for her outstanding work in journalism.

2.Farhana Ahmed of The Assam Tribune was also given the award in the Print Media category for her impactful stories on human trafficking and forced migration.

3.Mridusmanta Boruah of Pratidin Time was conferred the award in the Electronic Media category for his exemplary reporting.

4.Dr. Kshetrimayum Chitrabhanu Devi of Imphal Review of Arts & Politics was given the award in the Digital Media Catagory for her contribution to the digital journalism space.

5.Aparamita Das of India Today NE was given the award for her compelling photo essay in the still photography category.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs; and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita was the chief guest at the event.

The Kalyan Barooah Awards aim to honour journalists and media professionals from the Northeast region for their dedication, impactful storytelling, and commitment to excellence in journalism.

The first time the Kalyan Barooah Awards were given was in 2023.

The awards were presented by ‘My Home India’, in collaboration with North East Media Forum (NEMF) in the memory of Kalyan Barooah, one of the senior journalists from Assam working in New Delhi as the Bureau Chief of The Assam Tribune, Assam’s leading and oldest English daily.

He died during the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 along with his wife Nilakshi Bhattacharyya, who was also a journalist with The Times of India.
