Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Tripura later this month, with a focus on resolving key issues concerning the indigenous population. This announcement followed a meeting between Shah, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma, and Tripura East MP Kriti Devi Debbarma.
Taking to social media platform X, Pradyot Debbarma shared that the meeting covered the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, enhanced fencing and patrolling along the Indo-Bangladesh border, and the early passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment. The Amendment aims to empower the Sixth Schedule areas in Northeast India, addressing long-standing demands for self-governance and inclusive development.
Debbarma expressed optimism, stating that the Union Home Minister has shown a keen interest in addressing the outstanding issues of Tripura’s indigenous people. Notably, the second round of discussions on the Tiprasa Accord was held in New Delhi earlier this month, where progress was made on several crucial matters.
During the meeting, MP Kriti Devi Debbarma also handed over a memorandum to Shah, urging the government to expedite the passage of the 125th Amendment of Indian Constitution. In the memorandum, she highlighted the importance of the Amendment for the empowerment of Sixth Schedule areas, stressing its role in ensuring balanced development in Northeast India.
She emphasised that timely implementation of the Amendment would reaffirm the central government’s commitment to the welfare of the region’s indigenous communities.
