During a meeting with N.Biren, the JAC handed over a critical piece of evidence that confirms Kamalbabu’s entry into the Leimakhong Army Camp.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to address the disappearance of 56-year-old Laishram Kamalbabu has called for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s intervention to expedite efforts to locate him. During a meeting with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the JAC handed over a critical piece of evidence that confirms Kamalbabu’s entry into the Army’s 57 Mountain Division Headquarters at Leimakhong on November 25, the day he went missing.
Chief Minister Biren, while meeting with the JAC members and Kamalbabu’s family, said that every possible effort is being made to trace him. He assured them of ongoing coordination with security forces and affirmed his support for escalating the matter to the Union Defence Minister.
Taking to X Biren wrote, “Met the representatives of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Missing of Shri Laishram Kamalbabu and his family members, who are actively pursuing his whereabouts. Shri Kamalbabu was last seen at the 57 Mountain Division Headquarters, Leimakhong. During the meeting, the JAC members presented a key piece of evidence—the entry signature of Shri Kamalbabu, which he had signed before entering the camp. They were informed about the ongoing efforts to locate Shri Kamalbabu at the earliest, with the assistance of the security forces. The JAC also expressed their desire to draw the attention of Shri @rajnathsingh Ji, Hon’ble Defence Minister to find Kamalbabu at the earliest.”
The JAC has expressed its determination to draw the Defence Minister’s attention to the urgency of the case, hoping for swift intervention at the highest level.
This development comes two days after the Manipur High Court constituted a four-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kamalbabu’s disappearance. The division bench, comprising Chief Justice D. Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulsillu Kabui, directed the committee to determine whether Kamalbabu was abducted inside the army camp or left voluntarily. The court’s order followed a habeas corpus petition filed by the missing man’s brother, Leishram Brajabanshi Singh, on November 27.
