4 Insurgents Arrested In Manipur, Large Quantity Of Weapons Recovered

Manipur police have been arrested at least 3 militants and one juvenile of the Arambai Tenggol, a radical Meitei group, from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, Imphal East District for their alleged involvement in extortion.

Police also recovered an arms and ammunition from their possession. These include one Ghatak rifle along with one magazine and 5 live rounds, One .32 Pistol country made with magazine. They have also seized three nos. of mobile phones, one 04-wheeler vehicle and other incriminating items.

Taking to Twitter, Manipur Police on Monday stated, “On 01.12.2024, Manipur Police arrested 03 (three) armed miscreants and apprehended 01 (one) juvenile from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, Imphal East District who were found loitering in the area to commit prejudicial activities like extortion of money from general public and government officials of the said areas as well as threatening the general public.”

“They were later found to be members of Arambai Tenggol. The 03 (three) arrested persons have been identified as – (i)Ningombam Lemba Singh (25) (ii)Mangshatabam Poireinganba Meitei (21) (iii)Laishram Bidyas Singh (21)”, Police informed.

“Further the following items were recovered from their possession. (i) One Ghatak rifle along with one magazine and 5 live rounds (ii) One .32 Pistol country made with magazine (iii) 03 (three) nos. of mobile phones (iv)One 04-wheeler vehicle. (v) Other incriminating items”, police further added.

In another incident, Manipur police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Churachandpur District.

Manipur Police on Monday said, “Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the search operations, the following items were recovered: 01(one) no. of SLR Rifle with 01(one) magazine, 01(one) no. of 9 mm Pistol, 01(one) no. of 12 bore Single Barrel Gun, 15(fifteen) nos. of live rounds ammunition, 01(one) no. of Tracer Round, 02(two) nos. of Tear Smoke Shells (CS), 04(four) nos. of Rubber Bullets from Phaikhothang Village, Churachandpur District.”
