The National People’s Party (NPP) National Committee meeting held in Shillong on Wednesday, led by party president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, has strongly condemned the escalating violence in Manipur, particularly the gruesome killing of three women and three children, including an eight-month-old infant and a Hmar woman.
The statement, issued by Conrad Sangma, called the act “brutal and inhumane” and demanded immediate action from authorities.
The Committee expressed deep concern over the abduction of L. Kamal, a resident of Cachar district, who was reportedly taken near Laitangkhnou close to the Leimakhong Army camp. It urged both the Central and State governments to intensify rescue operations and ensure his safe return.
The NPP also criticized the frequent abduction and attacks on innocent civilians, including Naga harvesters and Muslim (Pangals) drivers, who face violence along the National Highways in the region.
