Mizoram Village Council Polls Rescheduled, Term Shortened By 6 Months

The Mizoram government has rescheduled the Village Council elections, originally planned for later next year to take place in the early months of 2024, shortening the term by approximately six months. The decision has drawn criticism from the All Mizoram Village Council Association, which has condemned the move as it “ goes against the principle of democracy and shows disregard for voters mandate” and announced plans to take the case to court. To fund their legal battle, AMVCA members have agreed to contribute Rs 500 each for hiring a lawyer.
