Gorkha Docco Music Festival all set to kick off on Nov 30 in Assam’s Lakhimpur

This edition of the festival will feature Nepal singer Trishna Gurung and the Collab band, from Kathmandu known for their soulful and electrifying performances.
Assam is all set to celebrate the 5th edition of Gorkha Docco Music Festival on Saturday (November 30) at Joyhing Bazar Playground in North Lakhimpur.
The Gorkha Docco Music Festival is a biennial celebration of the rich and vibrant tribal culture, heritage, and traditions of the Gorkhali tribes, which is organized by the All Assam Gorkha Tribal Students’ Union (AAGTSU).
The festival serves as a platform to highlight the longstanding demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) recognition for deserving groups of the greater Gorkha community in Assam.
This edition of the festival will feature Nepal singer Trishna Gurung and the Collab band, from Kathmandu known for their soulful and electrifying performances.
Speaking to media, Founder President of AAGTSU and the Gorkha Docco Music Festival (GDMF) Gopal Tamang Moktan said, ‘The festival embodies AAGTSU’s commitment to preserve and promote Gorkha tribal culture, educate the masses, and strengthen unity among various tribal groups. It also advocates for the inclusion of deserving Gorkha groups in the Scheduled Tribe category.’
The AAGTSU’s decade year edition music festival promises to be the most memorable one featuring Trishna Gurung and the Collab band internationally acclaimed singing band from Kathmandu known for their soulful and electrifying performances.
Bimal Gurung, founder and president of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJJM) who revived and spearheaded the Gorkhaland statehood movement that led to the formation of present day Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) will inaugurate the festival as the Chief Guest.
The major attractions in earlier editions of the festival were international rap singer and performer Vten ( Sameer Ghising), popular rapper and entertainer Laure ( Ashish Rana Magar), soulful singer Ekdev Limboo and internationally acclaimed Himalayan Tribal Folk and Tibetan Nepali Hindi singer from New York Raju Lama and The Mongolian Heart band in the last edition.
Bishal Ghising one of the Event Directors of the GDMF informed that preparation for the festival is in full swing.
Chairman of the Gorkha Development Council ( GDC), Government of Assam Prem Tamang, MLA of Lakhimpur constituency Manab Deka, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)’s Gorkha Gaurav awardee Prakash Rai and international award winning senior community journalist Nanda Kirati Dewan, leaders of the Gorkha civil society organisations (CSO)s are among other invitees will grace the festival as special guest of honour.
Gorkha tribal dance forms like Limboo (Yakthung) folk dance K- Lang ( Chyabrung), Rai (Khambu) traditional dance Sakela Silli and Tamang cultural dance Tamang Selo along with Gorkha singing bands and performers from across Assam selected through special screening will perform before Trisha Gurung and the Collab band takes to stage’, informed Sagar Dewan, general secretary of Joyhing Regional committee AAGTSU adding that the Reception Committee is fully prepared to host the guests and the artists in a traditional way musically.
