UPPL’s Victory in Sidli Reflects People’s Confidence in Us: Pramod Boro
First Published: 23rd November, 2024 19:16 IST
UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma won the Sidli seat with 95,243 votes defeating his nearest rival Shuddho Kumar Basumatary.
After United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won the Sidli Assembly seat for the second consecutive time, party leader and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro, today said it reflects the growing confidence of the people in the party. Boro reiterated UPPL’s commitment to bringing lasting peace and development to the Bodoland region.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Boro said, “The result of this election reflect the will of the people, and it proves that they are no longer with the BPF. They want peace, progress, and a government that delivers.”
He emphasized that the people now fully understand the party’s mission and vision, particularly its role in creating a secure and prosperous environment in the region.
“The people of BTR have understood the mission and vision of UPPL, and they are firmly with us in our quest for a peaceful and developed Bodoland,” Boro said.
He said that when the UPPL and its alliance partner, BJP, formed the BTR Council government in 2020, their primary objective was to restore peace and usher in sustainable development for the region after years of unrest.
“Today, there is total peace in the region. People are confident that only the BJP-UPPL government in the BTR Council can provide sustainable peace, restore security, and drive development,” Boro said.
Boro’s comments come amid the ongoing political transformation in Bodoland, where the UPPL has steadily built a reputation for progress and stability.
He said that the BTR region, which had experienced significant unrest and political instability under the previous Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) rule, is now seeing renewed faith in governance.
“Under the BPF regime, there was constant uncertainty regarding development, and the region was plagued by corruption and violence. But now, the situation has completely changed. We have eliminated these issues and are focusing on tangible development that benefits the people of Bodoland,” he added.
UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma won the Sidli seat with 95,243 votes defeating his nearest rival Shuddho Kumar Basumatary of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) who polled 58,227 votes today.
Bypolls were held on November 13.
