The second round of discussions on the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on December 3, sources told Northeast Live today.

The first round of talks was held on September 20 in New Delhi. During the first meeting, Tipra Motha Party (TMP) founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma presented key demands aimed at securing the rights of the Tiprasa community.

Pradyot has been vocal about his uncompromising stance on core issues such as land rights, direct funding for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and enhanced representation for indigenous people in the Tripura Legislative Assembly. In a Facebook Live session earlier in October, he reiterated these demands, stating, “Negotiating with the Government of India is tough, but I have not diluted any of our demands. Until we secure land rights, more assembly seats, direct funding, a central university, and a hospital, I will not compromise.”

Key Demands from Tipra Motha
In the September 20 meeting, Pradyot proposed reserving 25 of the 60 seats in the Tripura Legislative Assembly for the Tiprasa community and one seat for the Manipuri community. He also emphasized the inclusion of the Kokborok language and other native languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, the establishment of a development board for tea gardens, a central tribal university, and an AIIMS-like institute in the region.

First Meeting Outcomes
During the first meeting, a decision was taken to form a Joint Working Group that will meet every two months to ensure structured discussions. The group aims to create a comprehensive framework to address the longstanding concerns of the Tiprasa people, who have faced challenges for over seven decades. The Tipra Motha leaders submitted a detailed memorandum to the Convenor of the Joint Working Group, AK Mishra.

Pradyot has also confirmed earlier that officials from the TTAADC will be present in the upcoming talks, signaling a broader representation of tribal interests. He expressed his commitment to prioritizing the well-being of the Tiprasa people over political gains, saying, “Politics should not overshadow our dedication to our community. If we want a better future, we must avoid playing politics with our people.”

About the Tiprasa Accord
The Tiprasa Accord was signed on March 2, 2024, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Pradyot Debbarma, and other senior leaders. The agreement marked a significant step toward addressing the demands of the Tiprasa community. Senior state government officials, including Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, also attended the signing.
