Assam: Bangladeshi Infiltrator Escapes Police Custody

In a significant lapse, a Bangladeshi infiltrator identified as Mohammad Sajamuddin escaped from the custody of Assam Police.

Sajamuddin had been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital after reportedly falling ill but managed to flee the premises by taking advantage of the situation.

The individual had been arrested on September 10 for illegally crossing over into India. Assam Police have launched a massive operation to locate and re-arrest the fugitive.

This escape comes amidst Assam’s intensified crackdown on illegal immigration. On November 19, the Assam Police successfully apprehended nine Bangladeshi nationals in the Karimganj district. The operation, conducted as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to secure its borders, received praise from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Following their capture, the nine individuals were deported back to Bangladesh. Commending the police, Chief Minister Sarma reiterated his government’s commitment to preventing illegal immigration and safeguarding Assam’s borders.
