COCOMI Student Wing Locks Central Govt Offices in Manipur Amid Outrage Over Recent Civilian Killings

The student wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) escalated its protests on Saturday by locking down three central government offices in the state. The move is part of an indefinite protest against the alleged inaction of the central government over the continued violence in Manipur and the recent killing of six civilians, including women and three children.
The offices targeted in the protest include:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) office at Lamphel.
The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) office at Takyel.
The GST Bhavan at Thambalkhong.
Protestors, including students and representatives from COCOMI, stormed and locked these offices, blaming the government for failing to protect civilians and take action against the armed miscreants allegedly operating under suspension of operation agreements.
This action follows a 24-hour ultimatum issued by COCOMI on November 16 to both the central and state governments, demanding a military crackdown on the armed groups accused of perpetrating violence. The ultimatum came after COCOMI launched an indefinite sit-in protest at Ima Market, which has drawn widespread support from the locals.
The protestors have labeled the gruesome killings as “cold-blooded murders” and criticized the government for failing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Demonstrators are demanding immediate accountability and heightened security measures to prevent further loss of life.
The student wing has vowed to continue their protests until concrete steps are taken by the government to address their demands. The indefinite sit-in at Ima Market continues, with demonstrators holding banners and chanting slogans against the perceived negligence of the authorities.
