20 Additional CAPF Companies Deployed in Manipur Amidst Escalated Violence

This brings the total number of CAPF companies stationed in the state to 218, following the ethnic violence that erupted in May last year.
The Centre has deployed 20 additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to maintain law and order in Manipur that has seen fresh escalation in violence since November 7 that left 4 civilians, 10 armed miscreants dead and 3 women and 3 children missing.
The additional forces include 15 companies of CRPF being brought in from Assam, 5 companies from BSF from Tripura, an official communication said.
This deployment will take the total number of CAPF companies in Manipur to 218 – CRPF -115 companies, Rapid Action Force – 8 companies, BSF-84 companies, ITBP-5 companies and Sashtra Seema Bal – 6 companies.
This deployment will continue in Manipur till November 30, the official message said.
After a lull of few months, Manipur is on the boil again after incidents of arson and firing in Jiribam district on November 7 followed by firing in Phayeng, Kangchup, Koutruk in Imphal West and Sekmai till this morning. A truck carrying onions, potatoes and rice was set ablaze in Jiribam today morning.
Two people died during the attack by armed miscreants on Monday and 5 people were reported missing. Two of the five missing were found dead on Tuseday morning, police sources said.
10 armed miscreants were killed after security forces including CRPF retaliated during an attack on them in Jiribam district’s Borobekra on Monday. One CRPF jawan was injured in the attack.
According to police, armed men used locally-made unguided missiles, RPGs and foreign-made bombs as they opened fire targeting villages in Imphal West.
On November 9, a woman was killed after being hit by a bullet during firing by miscreants from the Churachandpur hills while she along with several others was working in paddy fields in Saiton, under the Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur.
On November 7, 2024, a woman was killed and houses were torched in Jiribam district.
