Fresh firing was reported today in Sekmai, located in Imphal West district. Sources indicate the firing continued through the early morning hours, although there are no reports of any casualties.
A truck transporting onions from Silchar to Imphal was set ablaze early this morning by armed miscreants. The incident took place on National Highway-37 near Phaiton village.
Reports indicate that two trucks were attacked between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. while carrying essential commodities, including rice, onions, and potatoes, to Longmai, Noney, and Tamenglong districts. This incident follows a similar attack on April 16 at Kaimai, where oil tankers and a gas convoy were ambushed by armed miscreants along the same highway.
These incidents come within 24 hours of firing in Phayeng, Kangchup, Koutruk in Imphal West and the escalated violence in Jiribam district in the last 72 hours that left 4 civilians dead and three women and three children missing.
On November 7, 2024, a woman was killed and houses were torched in Jiribam district.
On November 9, a woman was killed after being hit by a bullet during firing by miscreants from the Churachandpur hills while she along with several others was working in paddy fields in Saiton, under the Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur.
Meanwhile, there was partial response to the 24-hour shutdown called by 13 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Imphal today.
