Manipur is witnessing another wave of violence as a series of incidents continue to escalate across different districts. The situation in Thamnapokpi, under Imphal East District, turned volatile as intense firing broke out late yesterday evening between armed groups and security forces.
Heavy gunfire was reported, targeting both security personnel and the local population, forcing residents to flee to safer locations. During the clash, a soldier from the Mahar Regiment sustained a bullet wound to his hand, according to sources in the security forces.
Meanwhile, in Jiribam, sources reported bomb attacks on Mongbung Village, further intensifying the atmosphere of unrest. Over past few days, violent incidents have been reported in districts like Jiribam, Bishnupur, and other fringe areas, with at least two civilians losing their lives in the renewed hostilities.
On Thursday, a woman was reportedly killed following an alleged attack in Jiribam District. In a separate incident yesterday in Bishnupur District, a woman working in a paddy field sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Reports indicate that the bullet was fired from the direction of the Churachandpur hills.
