First Published: 9th November, 2024 21:11 IST

Supply of petrol to Tripura has been affected as train services in the Lumding-Badarpur section in Assam has stopped.

Starting tomorrow Tripura is imposing restrictions on buying petrol till further notice
because train services in the Lumding-Badarpur section has been suspended. Adding to the problem is the poor road condition of National Highway 08.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has canceled all goods and passenger train services for November 10 and 11 due to ongoing restoration work at a derailment site in the Lumding division.

As per the limits imposed by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs of Tripura, two wheelers can buy petrol worth Rs 200 daily, for three wheelers the limit is Rs 400 per day and for four wheelers it has been capped at Rs 1000 every day.

This limit is applicable at all petrol stations operated by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

Government vehicles and essential services, such as health and defense, are exempt from these restrictions, and retailers are prohibited from selling petrol in containers. Local officials may ease restrictions in specific areas if fuel supplies normalize, subject to approval from higher authorities, a government notification issued today said.

The NFR has announced the cancellation of the following trains to allow uninterrupted restoration work from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on November 10, 2024, at the derailment site between Daotuhaja (DKE) and Mupa (MPP) stations:

Train No. 15616 (Silchar-Guwahati Express) on November 10, 2024
Train No. 15615 (Guwahati-Silchar Express) on November 11, 2024

All passengers are advised to check for updates via the Indian Railway Passenger Information System, IVRS (dial 139), and other available media. These measures, along with the petrol restrictions, are intended to manage resources effectively as restoration and transport efforts continue.
