Fresh violence erupted in Manipur today, after armed miscreants resorted to heavy firing from the Churachandpur hills, resulting in the tragic death of a woman working in a paddy field.
The incident took place in Saiton, under the Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district, where the woman was working in the fields.
According to reports, the woman, along with several others, had gone to the paddy fields to tend to the crops when they came under heavy gunfire from the nearby hills.
She was hit by a bullet during the firing and died on the spot.
In response, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed in the area launched a counterattack against the armed groups. Intense crossfire between the security forces and insurgents from the Kangpokpi Hills has continued through the day, heightening tensions in the region.
To reinforce security, additional state forces have been deployed to the region, as many farmers, who were working in the paddy fields, remain at risk, hiding in the fields and water canals to escape the ongoing violence.
