Differently-Abled Man From Sikkim Allegedly Assaulted By Traffic Police in Odisha, CAP Demands Justice

In a shocking incident, a differently-abled man from Sikkim was allegedly assaulted by a traffic policeman in Odisha’s Gopalpur, following which the youth has been hospitalized at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and is said to be in a critical condition.

The differently-abled youth Wegen Sherpa was reportedly returning from Gopalpur beach when he and his friends were stopped by traffic police. The attack reportedly left Sherpa critically injured.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with advocacy groups and citizens condemning the act as an alarming violation of human rights. Calls for justice have intensified, urging authorities to take swift and strict action against the accused officer to ensure accountability.

The Citizen Action Party of Sikkim has also issued a strong condemnation of the incident. Albert Gurung, CAP spokesperson, described the attack as a severe abuse of power and a clear violation of human rights.

“The inhumane and unjustifiable act has not only caused severe physical harm to Mr. Sherpa but also shaken public confidence in law enforcement,” Gurung stated. The CAP is demanding immediate action against the officer involved, a thorough investigation by Odisha’s police, and the Odisha government’s intervention to ensure justice is delivered swiftly.

The CAP expressed its solidarity with Sherpa and his family, pledging to monitor the case closely until justice is secured. This incident has ignited anger among the people of Sikkim and raised serious concerns about police conduct and public safety.
