Development Projects Under MPLADS in Meghalaya Incomplete Even After 22-Years: MP Saleng Sangma

Addressing the media, MP Sangma said, "I was also wondering why many of these projects have been pending for the last 20 years".
Saleng A. Sangma, Member of Parliament from Tura, has expressed strong concerns over significant delays in completing various projects under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
During a recent review meeting with the State Level Monitoring Committee, chaired by Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, it was decided that all pending projects must submit their utilization certificates by December to push for project completion.
Addressing the media, MP Sangma said, “I was also wondering why many of these projects have been pending for the last 20 years. The amounts for these projects are small. I don’t know what is wrong with the system.”
Sangma noted that many projects initiated as far back as 2002 remain incomplete, despite relatively modest financial allocations ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh. Citing an example, he mentioned a project at a college in Rongjeng where nearly Rs 8.5 lakh of the Rs 10 lakh allocated had already been spent, yet the project remains unfinished.
“Twenty-two years is not a joke. Many projects have been pending from 2002 until now. I don’t want to blame anyone at the moment, but the delays could be due to wrong beneficiaries being chosen by my predecessors. This was my first review meeting, and I haven’t been on the ground yet. I will definitely visit these pending project sites to see the situation firsthand,” Sangma stated.
