A team of district police promptly responded, taking the woman into their care and escorting her to safety.
In a significant development amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, Jiribam District Police successfully rescued and reunited a 64-year-old Kuki woman, Hoinu Vaiphei, with her family on November 3. The woman was found in Jiribam’s Meetei village called Maibi Leikai, Babupara Ward No. 6, after arriving there by auto-rickshaw.
Speaking to media Kh. Johnson, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jiribam District said, the police were alerted at around 12:10 p.m. by local women known as Meira Paibi and volunteers, who noticed the elderly woman in the area.
Because of the volatile situation between communities in the state, the locals requested immediate police intervention to ensure her safety and prevent any potential unrest. A team of district police promptly responded, taking the woman into their care and escorting her to safety. She was later handed over to her family.
SP Johnson commended the proactive role played by the community in assisting law enforcement and emphasized the importance of cooperation to maintain peace. “The coordinated efforts by the public and police ensured a swift response that prioritized the safety of all involved,” he stated, adding an appeal for continued public cooperation in promoting harmony.
The family of Hoinu Vaiphei also expressed their gratitude to the Jiribam District Police for their timely action and commitment to safety.
