Manipur: Senapati Shutdown Continues, To End At 4PM Today

First Published: 3rd November, 2024 11:43 IST

The shutdown began at 4 p.m. yesterday and is set to end at 4 p.m. today, significantly impacting daily life in the district.

A lightning shutdown is currently underway in Senapati district, imposed by the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) in response to an incident involving the physical assault and robbery of two local youths in Thoubal. The shutdown began at 4 p.m. yesterday and is set to end at 4 p.m. today, significantly impacting daily life in the district.

According to H. Kuba Peter, President of the NPO, the decision to call for the shutdown was fueled by frustration over the lack of response from the responsible Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of the involved community. “Despite the gravity of the situation, there has been no effort by the CSOs to mediate or address the issue,” Peter said during a press briefing.

He also mentioned that the victims are well aware of the parties involved, however, the culprits are attempting to feign innocence.

NPO stated, with no response from responsible CSOs representing the involved community to mediate or redress the issue, the Organization has started a lightning 24 hours shutdown starting followed by Restriction of All Commercial Vehicular Traffic beyond Senapati District Headquarters.

NPO further warned that they may intensify their stance with further measures if deemed necessary.

In response, Manipur Police arrested a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) on Friday, linking him to the crime. Frontal organisation from the district had strongly condemned the incident and demanded stern actions against the perpetrators.
