Leo Expo Confers Leo Expo Award on Eminent Assam Journalist and Northeast Live Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain and Well-Known Actress Seema Biswas

Chief Information Commissioner and former DGP of Assam Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta spoke at length about the rich body of work of both Hussain and Biswas
Leo Expo, one of northeast’s India’s leading trade exhibitions, conferred the Leo Expo award on eminent journalist from Assam and Editor-in-Chief of Northeast Live, Wasbir Hussain and well-known Bollywood actress from Assam, Seema Biswas at a graceful event held today in Guwahati.
The awards are being given in recognition of their contribution to their respective fields and contain a cash award of Rs 50,000, a momento and a citation highlighting their work and contributions.
Chief Information Commissioner and former DGP of Assam Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta spoke at length about the rich body of work of both Hussain and Biswas. Mahanta spoke about his close association with Hussain as a journalist and him as a police official for decades.
He also mentioned about the book – Satras and Dargah co-authored by him and Wasbir Hussain and other books that Hussain has written. Mahanta said Hussain is among the very few writers from Assam who writes in English and this has helped in showcasing and highlighting the many issues and aspects of Assam and northeast in the national and international stage.
Mahanta also spoke about the many achievements of Seema Biswa who shot to national and international fame with her powerful role in the film Bandit Queen depicting the life of India’s one and only, most dangerous woman dacoit, Phoolan Devi known as bandit queen, who later became a member of parliament. Biswas had won the national award for her role as Bandit Queen. He mentioned about her significant roles in films like Deepa Mehta’s Water where she played the role of Shakuntala.
Accepting the award Seema Biswa said, “Its an honour for me. I feel very special. I feel humbled and inspired. Awards inspire me to work better and I am thankful to Leo Expo and feel honoured that they thought I am worthy of the award”.
In his acceptance speech, Wasbir Hussain thanked Leo Expo and the jury for the award and said, “This award makes me feel more responsible. This award is an inspiration and this will help me work better for Northeast Live, the channel that I am heading now”.
Former ADGP of Assam police and APSC Chairman Pallab Bhattacharya, senior journalists of Assam, Prannoy Bordoloi and Prasanta Rajguru, Vice President of Prideeast Group and Chief Managing Editor of News Live, Zarir Hussain, popular Assamese actress Malaya Goswami and eminent singer Manisha Hazarika were among those present at the award giving ceremony.
This year, Leo Expo being held at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati, is celebrating its silver jubilee year.
