Manipur: 8 UNLF (P) Cadres Arrested, AK-47, AK-56, M-16 rifles seized

In a major breakthrough in the crackdown on militancy in Manipur, the state police have arrested as many as 8 cadres of the proscribed United National Liberation Front -UNLF(P) in Thoubal district on Monday.

The arrested cadres were involved in illegal activities, threatening people with sophisticated arms and also trying to stop legal land demarcation process at Thoubal district, said Manipur Police.

The arrested cadres have been identified as the following as mentioned in the Manipur Police tweet:
1.Laishram Atangba Meitei
2.Leishangthem Nongpok Meitei
3.Thongam Khangakpa Meitei

  1. Thiyam Ningthou Meitei
  2. Akoijam Thoupangba Meitei
    6.Thounaojam Sugnu Ngakpa
  3. Ngasepam Nongthouba Meitei
    8.Sorokhaibam Nganba

Police also recovered a cache of arms from their possession. The seized arms includes-three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifle, one 9 mm pistol, and a total of 147 live rounds for AK-47, 20 for M-16, and 25 for the 9 mm, along with 16 mobile phones.

In a separate operation, police arrested a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadre from Top Leirak Machin, Keishamthong, Imphal West.

The PLA cadre has been identified as Moirangthem Maniton Singh. He was involved in extortion activities from shops in Imphal area.
