BJP is contesting three of the five constituencies in these by-elections, while the UPPL and AGP will contest one seat each.
United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) Candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma has filed his nomination for the Sidli Assembly Constituency, where by poll is scheduled to take place on November 13 along with the four other constituencies.
Brahma was joined by prominent political figures, including BTR Chief Pramod Boro, Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, TR deputy chief GMP Panibushan Choudhary, MP Rwngwra Narzary, and several other members of the NDA Alliance.
Speaking to the media, Brahma stated, “The public of the entire constituency is in support of the UPPL party. Our victory is 100% assured.” With strong backing from the alliance and the local populace, Brahma aims to secure a decisive win in the forthcoming by-election.
Assembly by-elections are scheduled for November 13, with the vote counting on November 23.
Brahma, contesting for the first time, previously served as a Member of the Council of Legislative Assembly (MCLA) for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) from 2015 to 2020. However, he was defeated by James Basumatary of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the 2020 elections.
Brahma is the president of the United People’s Party Liberal’s (UPPL) Chirang district committee. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting three of the five constituencies in these by-elections, while the UPPL and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will contest one seat each.
Meanwhile, the BJP has fielded Nihar Ranjan Das for Dholai, Diganta Ghatowar for Behali, and Diplu Ranjan Sarma for Samaguri. On the other hand, Congress has named Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha for Dholai, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, Brajenjit Sinha for Bongaigaon, and Tanzil Hussain for Samaguri.
Earlier, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) nominated Diptimoyee Choudhury, the wife of eight-time MLA Phanibhushan Choudhury from Bongaigaon after the latter was elected as an MP in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
