The families have filed a complaint with the police and appealed to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for urgent intervention.
In a disturbing development, 19 labourers from Kachua in Assam’s Nagaon district have allegedly been held hostage by a contractor in Arunachal Pradesh. The labourers had travelled to Dibang Valley in the frontier state for road construction work, but are now reportedly being detained and prevented from returning home.
According to the families of the stranded workers, the labourers are enduring extreme hardship in a remote interior area. They claim that the contractor, who hired them, is refusing to let them return unless an exorbitant sum of Rs 8 lakh is paid.
The families of the labourers have lodged a complaint at Kachua police station, urging the Assam Police to take immediate action. They have also made a heartfelt appeal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, requesting his intervention to secure the safe release of their loved ones.
This incident has sparked outrage in the local community, as concerns grow over the well-being of the stranded workers in the harsh conditions of Dibang Valley.
