In a tragic incident, a Lion Air Boeing 737 passenger plane with 189 people on board, including passengers and crew has crashed into Java sea after taking off from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

As per reports, The Boeing 737 flight JT 610 was carrying 181 passengers, including one child and two infants, as well as six crew members and two pilots.

The plane lost contact with ground control shortly after its pilot had asked to turn back to base, officials said.

Debris from the ill-fated plane including aircraft seats, was found offshore in the Java Sea. Rescuers recovered body parts from the Lion air crash site.

The National Search and Rescue Agency deployed boats, helicopter and 130 rescuers to the vicinity of the crash site in the Java Sea.

Bhavye Suneja, an Indian national was the captain of the plane, who had more than 6,000 flight hours, according to a statement posted by Lion Air.

The cause of the crash is not yet clear, which would have to wait until the recovery of the plane’s black boxes are known.
