In a key Cabinet meeting, the Manipur government approved land for indigenous sports complex.
In a significant move, the Manipur Cabinet today decided to restrict benefits from its welfare schemes to recognized villages only and exclude unrecognized ones from availing the benefits.
Dr. Sapam Ranjan, Health Minister and government spokesperson, addressed the media and said, “The benefits of all government schemes will be given to those only recognised villages. This will include MGNREGA, PMKSY etc. One cannot set up a village and giving a name to a village.”
In other decisions, the Cabinet decided to maintain the status quo on disturbed areas, excluding the territories under 19 police stations. It was also agreed to allocate land for a new police station at Zoujangtek in Nungsai Village, 12 km from Zoujangtek, and to open a police outpost in the area.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the recruitment of 137 Forest Guards on a contractual basis to boost forest protection. In a nod to cultural preservation, land has been designated for the construction of Indigenous Sports Complex at Senapati.
Further, land was allocated to the Social Welfare Department for the construction of a Child Welfare Committee Office and juvenile homes to support the welfare of children in need.
Addressing the rising number of dengue cases in the state, Dr. Ranjan urged the public to cooperate with government efforts like fogging and other preventive measures, stressing that public participation is essential to curb the spread of the disease.
