‘Politics of vendetta’: Congress condemns ED summons to MPCC President

Spokesperson criticized the timing and nature of the summons, accusing the BJP-led government of attempting to stifle the voice of the opposition.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has condemned the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons issued to its President, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, calling it an example of “political vendetta.”
In a press conference held at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, on Tuesday, MPCC Senior Spokesperson N. Bupenda Meitei criticized the timing and nature of the summons, accusing the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and state of attempting to stifle the voice of the opposition.
Meghachandra, who has been outspoken against the BJP’s “double engine” governments, received the ED notice at his home in Manipur on October 7, 2024, demanding his appearance in New Delhi on the same day. The MPCC pointed out that it was logistically impossible for him to comply within such short notice.
“This is nothing but an attempt to intimidate and harass Meghachandra for fearlessly exposing the government’s failures, especially regarding the ongoing crisis in Manipur,” said Meitei. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not visited the state since the unrest erupted 17 months ago, further underscoring the Union Government’s failure to address the crisis.
The MPCC firmly stated that it will not be silenced by such actions, asserting that this is a tactic to divert attention from the BJP’s shortcomings in managing the turmoil in Manipur since May 2023. “Those who are afraid, intimidate. But the Congress will not back down,” added Meitei.
