Durga Puja Bonus for Cha Mazdoors in Assam: Tea Gardens Grant 20% Bonus and Ex Gratia to 10 Lakh Workers

In a festive gesture, tea gardens in Assam have announced a 20% bonus along with ex gratia payments for 10 lakh cha mazdoors (tea workers) ahead of Durga Puja, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today.
The decision aims to support the tea workers during the festive season, recognizing their significant contribution to the industry.
CM Sarma expressed gratitude for the tea garden owners who are ensuring that workers receive this bonus, reflecting a commitment to their welfare even amid financial pressures.
The Chief Minister said that this initiative is being implemented despite the economic challenges faced by some private companies in the region.
“Puja Bonus for Assam’s tea garden community Well being of Assam’s tea garden community has been one of our top most priority. I am happy to share that almost all tea gardens in the State under State or Pvt ownership has offered 20% Bonus and ex gratia ahead of Durga Puja to over 10 lakh Cha Mazdoors. This is being offered despite the economic stress being faced by some of the private companies as well. My gratitude to all stakeholders for executing this excellent decision,” CM Sarma posted on X.
The tea industry in Assam is about 172 years old. It occupies an important place and plays a very useful part in the national economy.
