Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station, Arup Debbarma is accused of planting marijuana near a house of a resident in Baghaiyachar village.
In a shocking turn of events, allegations have emerged suggesting that the anti-marijuana operations conducted by the Jatrapur police in Tripura’s Sepahijala district may be a facade.
Villagers alleged that police officers are involved with local marijuana traders, even going so far as to plant marijuana near the homes of residents to falsely implicate them and extort money.
Residents of Baghaiyachar village in Sepahijala district accused Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station, Arup Debbarma of planting marijuana near Abdul Rahman’s house to target his son, Alamgir Hossain, who was preparing to leave for Italy.
Speaking to media, a local said, “Debbarma brought marijuana from Rubber Bagan and planted it at Rahman’s residence in his absence, capturing evidence to support a false case. Following these actions, an FIR was filed against Alamgir and took him to Police Station. Around 15-16 people have seen this.”
Following this, irate villagers staged a road blockade on the vital Kathalia to Sonamura road on Monday, accusing Jatrapur Police Station of framing false cases using marijuana for monetary extortion.
A large number of villagers, including women, blocked the road and burned tyres, demanding action against the police officials involved.
Protestors alleged that police planted the illegal substance at night or during quiet daytime hours, only to later file bogus charges.
They claimed that the anti-marijuana operations by the Jatrapur police are merely a facade, while in reality, the police are involved with local marijuana traders.
