The Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) has raised concerns about the alleged entry of displaced Kukis from Manipur into Karbi Anglong, warning of possible demographic and social disruptions.
Amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Karbi literary organization Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) has expressed concern over the alleged arrival of displaced Kukis seeking shelter in Karbi Anglong.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, the KLA urged the government not to allocate land to these individuals. The organization argued that the influx could disturb the district’s demographic and social balance.
The KLA claimed that many Kukis have already settled in the Singhason and Khonbamon hill areas, posing a threat to Karbi ancestral lands. They called for the Assam government and the KAAC to intervene, suggesting the establishment of temporary camps under strict supervision for the displaced individuals.
While acknowledging the humanitarian need to assist those displaced by the conflict, the KLA emphasized the importance of protecting Karbi Anglong’s ancestral lands and heritage.
