Security Heightened Along Borders at Jiribam, Mao Gate to Stop Illegal Migrants: Manipur CM

CM N Biren Singh urged the people of Manipur to remain alert and report any suspicious activities promptly.

In response to the detection of illegal migrants in neighbouring states, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has reiterated his government’s commitment to maintaining the safety and integrity of the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted increased vigilance at key entry points in the state particularly Mao Gate and Jiribam, to prevent any illegal migration that could disrupt the social fabric and security of the region.

He urged the people of Manipur to remain alert and report any suspicious activities promptly.

“In response to the detection of illegal migrants in our neighboring states, I want to assure you that the Government of Manipur has also proactively taken measures to safeguard the state against a potential influx. We have heightened vigilance at key entry points, particularly Mao Gate and Jiribam, to prevent any illegal migration that could disrupt our social fabric and security. I urge the people of Manipur to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities. Together, we must act responsibly to protect the indigenous communities and uphold the integrity of our state,” CM N Biren Singh posted on X.

It may be mentioned here that the unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh has triggered fear of a Myanmar-like influx into the Northeastern region of India, particularly Tripura and Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the State police have arrested over 100 Bangladeshi nationals so far.

Earlier, Manipur and Meghalaya have imposed night curfews while Tripura, Mizoram and Assam have beefed up security measures along their border with Bangladesh in view of the country’s ongoing turmoil.

These states share an international boundary with Bangladesh. Of the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh border, Meghalaya shares 443 km, Tripura 856 km, Mizoram 318 km and Assam 262 km. However, Manipur shares 398 km of international borders with Myanmar, but none with Bangladesh.
