Tourism Minister has assured that the government remains open to resolving concerns raised by transport stakeholders.
Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has assured that the government remains open to resolving concerns raised by transport stakeholders. Speaking on recent tourism and transport issues, Lyngdoh highlighted ongoing discussions with the official committee about the demands of the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxis Association (AKMTTA). He emphasized that solutions would be explored in collaboration with all parties involved.
On the tourism front, Lyngdoh emphasized the growing appeal of Meghalaya as a top destination for global artists. He noted that international stars like Akon, who will perform at the upcoming Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, and Bryan Adams, scheduled to visit in December, highlight the state’s unique charm.
“Meghalaya has become a brand apart as a tourism destination,” Lyngdoh stated, acknowledging that while challenges exist, they can be overcome through genuine efforts to find solutions.
The AKMTTA recently submitted a four-point demand to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, urging the government to sign a reciprocal transport agreement (RTA) with Assam. Their demands also include a symmetric arrangement to ensure mutual benefits for transporters in both states, along with issues related to state carriage permits, special permits, and private service vehicle (substantive) permits.
The highly anticipated Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2024 will take place on November 15-16 at the RBDSA Sports Complex. The festival will feature a stellar line up, including Akon, Boney M’s Maizie Williams, and Hong Kong rapper-singer Lucas, marking Akon’s return to India and Lucas’ first performance in the country.
