In a significant development, another 17 Bangladeshi nationals including 2 women were arrested in South West Garo Hills after entering India through Hallidayganj.

During interrogation, the infiltrators revealed that they were supposed to travel to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and had entered India with the help of middlemen.

The Meghalaya police have ramped up efforts to combat illegal immigration, particularly in the Garo Hills region, where influx has surged alarmingly. Notably, Meghalaya Police apprehended 31 Bangladeshi infiltrators within just three days.

Earlier on September 28, ten Bangladeshi nationals were intercepted at a checkpoint on SH-12 between Dalu and Ampati. Two days later, four more infiltrators were caught en route from Tura in Garo Hills to Assam’s Goalpara district.

It needs to be mentioned that, Assam police arrested twelve illegal Bangladeshi nationals near the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing in Hatshingimari, South Salmara Mankachar on October 1 night.

Acting on specific information, police officers intercepted the group while they were traveling in a tempo from Meghalaya.

According to sources, the Bangladeshi nationals had entered India two to three months earlier through Dawki in Meghalaya and got fake Aadhar cards to prove themselves as Indian nationals.

These recent arrests emphasizes the urgent need for vigilance against illegal immigration, prompting the Meghalaya police to enhance monitoring and enforcement measures in the region. This proactive approach aims to safeguard the state’s borders and ensure the safety of its residents.
