In an effort to wipe out the drug menace in South Shillong, Meghalaya, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has taken a special initiative to form a committee to tackle the growing drug issue in the region.

The South Shillong Legislator convened a meeting today with police officials and various stakeholders at the Jhalupara Community Hall in this regard. During the meeting, Shullai emphasised the importance of a collaborative effort to tackle the issue.

He said that the formation of a committee that will include community members, which aims to develop actionable recommendations to combat drug-related activities.

Shullai said that the committee’s findings will be submitted to the state government, aiming for effective interventions and policy measures.

“We will form a committee, and we will select members from the Dorbar Shnongs, Village Council, and stakeholders. We will then send the recommendations of suggestions to the government. Recently, the government has constituted a committee to look after this drug issue.”

The meeting also addressed concerns about illegal migrants, stressing that non-residents must possess proper documentation, including police verification, to reside in the area.

Shullai highlighted the importance of strict enforcement, reflecting the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s call for stringent measures against drug peddlers and illegal immigrants.
