SC directs Prateek Hajela to submit report on exclusion of five documents to ascertain citizenship

The Supreme Court has asked NRC co-ordinator Prateek Hajela to give his views on his earlier report to the Supreme Court stating that five documents should not be allowed to be used for claiming inclusion of names in the National Register of Citizens.

The Bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohington has also asked all stakeholders including the Centre and the Assam government to respond to Hajela’s suggestions.

The apex court also directed the NRC co-ordinator to make a power point presentation before the officials of the state in presence of Attorney General KK Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

The stakeholders will then have to submit their response on Hajela’s suggestions before October 30. The next date of hearing has been fixed on November 1.
