Manipur Government Extends AFSPA For 6 More Months Amid Ongoing Ethnic Violence

The Government of Manipur has extended the "Disturbed Area" status under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, for six more months.

The Government of Manipur has extended the “Disturbed Area” status under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, for six more months in the entire state, except for 19 specified police stations across the Valley districts.

The extension comes into effect from 1st of October. According to a notification issued by the Home Department and approved by the Governor, the extension aims to curb violent activities by extremist groups and maintain law and order in the region.

Exempted police stations include Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Sekmai, Lamsang, Patsoi, Wangoi, Porompat, Heingang, Lamlai, Irilbung, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Nambol, Moirang, Kakching, Jiribam and Leimakhong.
