This comes amid Meghalaya recording records high temperatures over the past few days
Amid the ongoing heatwave, Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has clarified that school heads and district administrations have the authority to modify school timings based on the specific needs of their regions.
Sangma emphasized that the state government has not issued any formal directive to change school schedules, allowing schools in areas experiencing extreme weather, such as heatwaves or storms, to make decisions independently without waiting for instructions from the government.
This announcement comes as Meghalaya is experiencing record-high temperatures. Ampati recently recorded a sweltering 41.4°C, while Shillong hit its highest September temperature in 55 years at 29.9°C just two days ago.
