Meghalaya: HPC Delegation Meets Chief Secretary, Says Hopeful For A Resolution

The HPC said that they have no intention to create any trouble and only want to help the government to resolve the problem amicably.
The Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) has expressed optimism regarding a resolution to the long-standing relocation issue of Harijan Colony as discussions continue with the Government of Meghalaya.
A delegation from the HPC met with Chief Secretary DP Wahlang at the Secretariat today to address the relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong.
During the meeting, the HPC presented their views alongside a visiting delegation from Amritsar, facilitating a broader dialogue on the issue.
Speaking to media, after the discussions, HPC representatives said that while the talks were constructive. However, they said that they require further meetings to ensure all concerns are adequately addressed.
The delegation emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, noting that they found the government’s proposal to be not entirely satisfactory. They are hopeful for a resolution that meets the needs of the affected families.
“We have presented our viewpoint and it is still in its infancy as to what is going to happen. At this stage. We are only saying that it was a very constructive meeting that we had, and we are very hopeful that this problem of the resident of Punjabi Lane Will be solved sooner than later.”
The HPC said that they have no intention to create any trouble and only want to help the government to resolve the problem amicably.
“If a Sikh anywhere in the world is hurt, it affects us deeply. We are here to express solitary with them. We are not here to create any trouble. We are here to help the government to reserve the problem in an amicable and proper manner,” said the HPC.
