A total of four touts, allegedly involved in human trafficking and helping illegal Bangladeshi nationals cross into the Indian Territory, were arrested in Assam’s Karimganj district on Monday.
As per inputs, Police first arrested a tout identified as Jamil Ahmed from Konapara in Badarpur.
Based on his confession, three other touts were also arrested. The three other arrested touts have been identified as Mehbub Alom, Kapil Uddin and Titu Roy.
The four arrested touts had been involved in illegally trafficking illegal Bangladeshis along the Indo-Bangladesh border of Assam’s Barak Valley and Meghalaya.
As per inputs, the touts would keep the illegals in their houses for a few days after crossing them into India and then send them off to different parts of the country via trains.
Police also seized mobile phones and other incriminating documents from the arrested touts.
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that at least four Bangladesh nationals were apprehended for illegally entering the country, and sent back through Assam’s Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border.
Around 100 people have so far been apprehended for illegally entering the country and pushed back to Bangladesh since the turmoil broke out in the neighbouring nation.
The Assam Police is maintaining a high alert along the border to ensure that no person can enter the state illegally, Director General of Police G P Singh had earlier said.
