One student has been arrested on Monday in connection with the death of a Class 9 student at a school in Assam’s Darrang district.

The fresh arrest comes after a student died from reported assault at the Padum Pukhuri High School.
Apart from the one student getting arrested, three other students have been detained for questioning.

The Class 9 student identified as Bhabesh Deka was found dead inside a classroom after he was reportedly assaulted by another group of students.

As per inputs, the school principal and the staff members were also questioned by the police but may again be summoned for further questioning with regards to the matter.

Meanwhile, the deceased student’s post mortem examination will be completed at the Guwahati Medical College & Hospital today.

No external injury has been found on the body. One scratch mark has been found on the right hand though, inputs said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier on Monday, the deceased’s father said that at least four boys were picking up fights with his son and often targeting him.

Yesterday, after Bhabesh reached the school, the Class X boys slapped and punched him inside the classroom, and he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead.
