Assam: 6 Ex- NDFB Cadres Freed from Bhutan's Gelephu Prison After 8 Years

As many as 6 ex-National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) cadres who were lodged in a jail in Bhutan for the last 8 years, finally returned home, Bodoland Territorial Region Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro said today in Kokrajhar.

The NDFB cadres were released from Bhutan’s Gelephu prison and handed over to Indian authorities on Friday.

The Bhutanese authorities facilitated the release of the six individuals, who had been held in Gelephu since their arrest by the Royal Bhutan Army in 2016, Bodo said.

The six former cadres identified as Birmal Basumatary, Jiban Basumatary, Dilip Basumatary, Pakon Narzary, Sonaram Muchahary and Sonam Mongar are currently in the custody of Assam Polcie for some legal formalities.
