Gauhati High Court Quashes Appointment of 935 Nagaland Police Constables, Orders Fresh Hiring In 6 Months

The state government has been directed to hold fresh exams after publishing advertisements in newspapers which are well circulated in Nagaland.
In a big development, Gauhati High Court has quashed the appointment of 935 Nagaland police constables appointed by the Nagaland Government between January 2018 and October 2019 without advertisement.
The judgement pronounced by Justice Devashis Baruah on Friday has asked the state to conduct fresh hiring in the next six months.
The state government has been directed to hold fresh exams for the 935 posts of constables after publishing advertisements in newspapers which are well circulated in Nagaland and by following proper rules of hiring.
The process of selection is to be completed at the earliest and preferably within six months from the date of the judgement, the High Court order said.
The constables whose appointments has been set aside by the judgement will be eligible to participate in the fresh selection process and there will age relaxation for the affected constables as well the petitioners. However, there will be no relaxation in the matter of basic qualifications as well as the departmental physical criteria, the order further said.
